Lower Merion School District Superintendent Robert Copeland's Letter to Families regarding COVID-19

Dear LMSD Families,

As mentioned in my letter yesterday, the District is developing plans to continue educating our students, should we need to close our schools for a period of weeks due to COVID-19. This is a complicated issue, requiring coordination among our 10 schools, Curriculum Department, Information Services, Student Services and Nutritional Services. To facilitate planning, we are making the schedule changes listed below:

  • Elementary School conferences scheduled for Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 are postponed

    • Elementary students should report for school in the morning and will have an early dismissal at 12:25 p.m. as scheduled

    • As a reminder, Right At School provides childcare on half days on a drop-in basis to families who register

    • Teachers will spend the afternoons working on their remote learning plans

  • Middle Schools and High Schools will have an early dismissal on Friday, March 13

    • High Schools will dismiss at 11:20 a.m.

    • Middle Schools will dismiss at 11:55 a.m.

    • Teachers will spend the afternoon working on their remote learning plans

We understand that these schedule changes may cause an inconvenience for some of our families. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to keep our students, staff, their families, our community safe during this time. Sincerely,

Robert Copeland
Superintendent
